Shepherd Homes Program

Ephesians 2:10 NLT states “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

We have been made co-heirs with Christ to the Kingdom of God and this ministry is His kingdom work here on earth."

Join Us

Casa de Mariposa is God’s ministry entrusted to all of us who are privileged to be called “Children of God”. We all have a responsibility to be good stewards of God’s resources, to obey God’s will, to do the work that He has prepared for us, and to love God and love our neighbors.

We want to invite you into your inheritance and encourage you to join with us and experience this opportunity to serve God and serve others. Casa de Mariposa needs you…volunteers with servant hearts!

In Matthew 9:36-38 NLT it is written, When Jesus saw the crowd, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. He said to his disciples, “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So, pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest, ask him to send more workers into his fields.”

Participation

Our Shepherd Homes program is an invitation for the “body of Christ” to participate in the harvest by providing discipleship opportunity to an at-risk population (single pregnant women and single women w children) in our community. God’s plan for salvation for His creation is so much greater than anyone can imagine if we will surrender to Him and ask God to do His work in and through each of us.

A Shepherd Homes program is a God-size vision for Casa de Mariposa to expand our capacity to serve by connecting a Host maternity home with numerous Shepherd Homes. This would establish an interdependent relationship between the Host and Shepherd Homes that support a woman and her baby on their journey towards becoming self-sufficient. (See illustration)

As mothers leave the Host home and transition to a Shepherd Home it opens opportunity to receive and serve other women into the Host home.

The program effectiveness depends upon a partnership with churches and establishing a robust network of experienced, tenured shepherds who over time grow in their capacity to host women and their children. The partnering church would identify Shepherd home families, couples, or single women in their respective congregation willing to open their hearts and homes.

Casa will provide initial screening for prospective moms while in the Host home by initiating potential relationships during that period. This vetting period could be from several months up to a year after the birth of the child.

For qualifying mothers, a Shepherd Home would be their next step towards being on her own. Casa would continue to support this relationship with volunteers and needed resources.

The program offers several benefits for both the mother and shepherds as well as the community and church body. When fully exercised it gives a mother and baby the opportunity to experience the love of Christ Jesus through mature Christians.

It gives the shepherd opportunity to disciple and nurture a young believer and invite her into a church family. Together they get to learn how to love God and love each other in ways that may not happen in any other circumstance.

A mother and child receive hospitality of a stranger in a safe home environment that helps her develop responsibility and accountability to others. She is encouraged to pursue goals of education and or employment which contribute to achieving her independence. Casa will continue to collaborate with the mother and Shepherd to facilitate the relationship and assist in making a lasting transition towards self-sufficiency.

There are many social benefits that the community experiences when we help someone rise above adverse circumstances to become a healthy, confident person able to thrive and provide for their children. The potential for making a difference is limitless!

“For I know the plans I have for you says the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. In the day that you pray to me, I will listen and if you search for me with all your heart you will find me. I will be found by you, says the Lord.”      Jeremiah 29:11-13 NLT H
